Apparition

2024

Paper, metal rods, object.

A project created in cooperation with the Museum of Folk Architecture and Rural Life In Lviv named after Klymentii Sheptytskii in Lviv.

Curated by Zilinko Roman.

The installation was formed in the church from the village of Yazlivchyk of Brody region.

On paper, pollution, soot and rust from buildings: traces of time and pain. These are the layers that so resonate with the layers of experience we feel on our skin right now. Unlike stone and metal, paper is more fragile than the human body. Traces on it lose the dimension of physical suffering.

The technique of blind printing on paper allows me to take three-dimensional prints from various objects, preserving non-permanent states on its surface.

The temple is filled with paper prints taken from architectural details. Most artifacts come from destroyed buildings. Only one element was subsequently used in the restoration of the building already after 2022. The installation is only partially located in the church, its movement appeals to the history of the building itself.

Prints are created in an endlessly repeated ritual, routine work often invisible, which is applied in opposition to erasure and oblivion.

One of the objects is a wooden sculpture of the 18th century. from Ternopil Region was found in a neglected state. Part of the work is the process of conservation of the sculpture, the first stage of which is already taking place inside the temple.
